You may not have been around, when the music was hitting the clubs etc but, you can make up for it now, as there is loads of music to listen to.

Keep New Jackin' it, star80!

I was born in 1970 so I was in a club when I first heard 'Groove me', 'I want her', 'just got paid' and it was great, that

Welcome to the NJS4E family, star80! Look around and enjoy all the information you can find here.

Where are you from and how did you discover New Jack Swing?

The autobiographical movie about her was called "Star 80s". But now we have a different "Star" joining to boards. Welcome!
I really love the fact that we currently tend to get so many young members, NJS is being recognized by people not even around back then. This is the way things should be! :D

Yo star80, I feel your pain because I was born a year later. Luckily for us, we're able to chat with people about the NJS era. It's very cool to see people joining this forum every now and then because it shows that people are doing it for the love of music. New Jack Swing, IMO, came around and put a huge Energizer battery in urban music because the hits kept goin and goin and goin....... and nobody could and still can't ignore it.

welcome to NJS4E, star80! I hope to be chattin with ya real soon! :D

Yours truly,

VSF

Don't worry Star! I was born in 1976 and I know what the first disco record was! I collect a majority of soul releases back to 1963. There was the "big beat ballad" like "Stand by me" by Ben E King in 1963 which was soul over a Latin rhythm like a samba. There were hundreds of songs in this style by obscure artists like Kurt Harris which often sell on ebay for hundreds! I know this because I researched and spent a lot of bucks on compilations and joined forums just like these.

Welcome aboard and my fav's of the NJS era is anything produced by the Laface team and anything rather independant and obscure like Mind, Artwork, Basic Black, ect. If you like Teddy Riley's production, type his name in at allmusic or browse at Amazon by typing in Guy. After viewing what others purchased along with Guy, other cult favorites and genre defining artists pop up as well.

I was born in '82 and although I was old enough to appreciate the music, I was no where near old enough to enjoy it in the clubs. So I feel your pain a bit. Welcome to the boards!!!! :D

You didn't miss anything. Age aint nothing but a number like Miss Aaliyah sang.

:D

Maybe you were born in 1987, but its never late to go back to NJS, videos, CDs etc..., check them out, and enjoy. I was born in 1982, but some older guys that i meet are always surprised that i know NJS artists like Troop for instance, like i tell them age ain't nothing but a number. lol

So don't be sorry for being born in 1987 lol, be blessed to find out eventually New Jack Swing.

And welcome to the family

I was born in 1981 so I recall the NJS era as a child in elementary school. When I heard songs like You Can Call Me Crazy or Just Got Paid blasting from every car in my neighborhood, I knew it was something special. So I'm old enough to get nostalgic moments when I hear NJS, but still learning so much about the music.

Welcome to NJS4E!!

Hello:

I was born in the early 1980s too, and please believe me when I say that age cannot hinder you from being creative and going back in time with this great music. And this forum is here as a guide to help you research. Welcome! My name is Nicky.
