Hi Again NJS4E - I'm Back!

Post by DJ_Mac »

Hey NJS4E crew, I signed up to the forum maybe 9-12 months ago (maybe longer) and gave the extended intro and background - but the site crashed for a few days after I signed up and when it came back on line my profile was deleted and my introduction thread was gone. :(

Anyway, I received an add from NJS4E on myspace the other day and thought it was time to reapply to the forum - so I hope you'll all welcome me back!

There seems like allot of Aussies on here now - last time I was on I thought there was only one or two. That's great to see all the support for NJS in Oz!

My very very very brief reintroduction bio is I'm a DJ / Lawyer based in Sydney in Australia. I DJ regularly at between 10 and 15 clubs in Sydney and I've just locked up a monthly (every 4-6 wks) residency in a club in Melbourne and am also in talks with a club in Hobart. I am the Old Skool and New Jack Swing DJ on Australia's only 100% Urban Commercial Radio Station, The Edge 96One FM. My mixes are played on air 7 days a week. And I'm also on The Black Label Show on 93.7FM in Sydney on Monday nights. I've been on a mission for the last probably 5 years to really bring New Jack Swing back in a big way in Oz, and I think that the movement has taken off over the last couple of years in particular. I'm also a concert DJ, I've toured, performed with as support or after party DJ with a stack of artists, Boyz II Men, K'Ci & JoJo, Montel Jordan, 112, Allure, Naughty By Nature, Snoop Dogg, Next etc etc etc

Anyways, just wanted to let you know about some NJS related things happening in Oz right now!

1. Bobby Brown is performing in Melbourne tomorrow night. Ticket sales could be better so PLEASE if you're in Melbourne go buy a ticket and one for your best mate and your cousin and your next door neighbour too! Lol

2. Bobby Brown is performing in Sydney on Friday night at the Enmore Theatre - I'm supporting him in concert with a special New Jack Swing set at the concert. (tickets are still on sale through ticketek - but Sydney has smashed it with sales and it's almost totally sold out)

Image

3. Red Room (which is my main residency and Sydney's New Jack Swing club) has been nominated in the 2007 Urban Music Awards as a finalist for the Australian Best Club of 2006/2007 category. I thought - you'd like to know! I might have some free tickets to give away to you guys to the awards ceremony and concert (performers include Naughty By Nature, The Game, Akon, Mims and a few others) - stay tuned!

All right I guess that's it for this post! Keep up the good work fellas - and holla at me when you're ready for a NJS4E Australia Party!

I love the fact that you want to bring NJS back and most of us are on the same mission I think. It looks like you're DJ'ing pretty much the same music as we do (me & Elmer J AKA Dat Ding DJ crew): old skool R&B, hiphop & New Jack Swing. Love it! :D Great to hae you here and let's chat on NJS4E :D .

Thanks for the welcome back K-Bee and Freez.

If there is anything I can do to help the global NJS community - just holla!

I saw allot of the other introductory threads list favorite New Jack artists and tracks etc. I could run through a stack of artists and tracks both obscure and mainstream, but that's why we're all here right - cos we love all New Jack Swing? So instead, let me just give you one track and the story that goes with it.

"Crazy" by the Boys. It was 1990, I had just started High School and my mate, who's Dad ran a nightclub, brought me in a cassette tape with these hot new tracks that had just come out in the States. Anyway, that track was the first song on the tape - and that did it. Up until that point I was just a young kid that liked all music - I used to get into Starship and Ice House and Dianna Ross etc etc. But after hearing that song I was ONLY into New Jack Swing! That's when it all started for me - and it's still going on - lol

I'll jump online from time to time with free tickets to this or that concert etc. But if anyone is after something in particular or just wants to say wassup - feel free to drop me a line!

Much luv!

Mac

Hey. yeah the Bobby Brown concert was off the hook! The Sydney show was a SOLD OUT concert which was awesome! He put on a GREAT show! It's honestly probably the best concert I've ever been to. He's lost some of the range in his voice, but he was such a great performer and charmer of the crowd that he got the crowd to sing those notes for him.

Image

Bobby busted out the running man and a few of his other dance steps during the concert. That sent the crowd wild and Bobby seemed to really have fun!

Image

He pulled this chick out of the audience and sang Roni to her and crawled across the stage towards her - I think a thousand girls were in tears during this segment! Lol It was pure showmanship - very well done!

Image

I probably DJ'd for close to an hour during the concert (2 seperate sets) and the crowd really got into it, the first set I kicked it off with Live And Learn - Joe Public and stayed very New Jack for that set. The second set I kept it very up-tempo and even managed to slip Strike It Up by Blackbox in there (which got a huge reaction). I had allot of fun!

Image

The highlight of the show for me was probably when he sang Good Enough. I just remember kicking back on the side of the stage singing along and thinking "It just doesn't get any better than this". The song he performed the best was definately "Rock Wit'Cha", he sang it perfectly, we could of been sitting in a recording studio he did such a good job of it.

There you have it, my concert review! I hope you all enjoyed it! Lol

Hey NJS4E Crew, I played at Red Room last night and Bobby didn't have a concert so he came down with his entourage to party. Now I have performed with allot of acts now and played at a respectable number of concert after parties etc - and I can honestly say that I've never come across an artist who went out of their way as much as Bobby did last night to make sure everyone was having a great time!

He rocked up at the club not long after I'd started spinning (10pm). He worked his way through the crowd and jumped on the mic and said hey to everyone, then he had a dance off - old skool style - in the middle of a circle with one of the other DJs from the club while I was playing. Then he came over to the both and took a couple of pics with me and my wife and some other peeps. He requested a song (Last Night - Diddy & Keisha Cole) and then grabbed the mic and sang the track to the crowd while it was playing (I cut the music a couple of times so that everyone could enjoy Bobby singing it acapella).

He stayed at the club for my full 2 hour set before leaving and he mingled with the crowd and didn't just stay in his roped off area like most artists do!

I have to admit that I was really really impressed with him. He was talkative and just really accomodating! So I guess the moral of the story is that whilst the media gives Bobby allot of bad press - don't believe the hype - he bent over backwards to make his Australian Greatest Hits Tour a success - and it was just that - a success!
