Hey dysfunk,

I think you just found a new home on the internet, just like us  . Good to have you here and good to see you have been doing some posting already. It's always good to have new members, especially the ones that are so glad they found 'us', like you. We always like to know a little more about the (new) members, so maybe you could tell us a bit more about yourself, your location, other musical preferences besides New Jack, favourite New Jack acts, your New Jack history... Whatever you want to tell us, we're glad to hear (or actually.. read  ).

lol alright

I'm from Vancouver, BC and my love for new jack swing has actually came to a couple of years ago after listening to Bobby Brown's "Bobby" album and soon I fell into New Edition almost instantly. I've always had a likening for R&B from the late 80's/early 90's but not until reciently have I started collecting cds and lps. (I'm actually in the middle of transfering the Wreckx-N-Effect - New Jack Swing 12" to my pc. :P ) I don't really have a favourite act but I find myself listening to Hammer's "The Funky Headhunter", BBD and Guy's Greatest Hits albums lately. Besides NJS I also listen to 90's hip-hop, my favourite being 2pac. I'm also a Prince nut as well so the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. haha Pretty diverse selections, I'll listen to almost anything but my heart lies to NJS.

I'm from Vancouver, BC
This makes me wanna pose the question: Were there any Canadian new jack swings acts? My memory is blank and I can't really think of any

Welcome aboard! If you ever want to know about how to collect the rare ones and what to look out for, I'm an expert at classic soul and rare full-lenght CDs. I don't collect many remixes, LPs, or 12" singles as my focus is mostly Quiet Storm. DJ Freez' can tell you what's on the 12" single!

What ballads do you like???

You're into Quiet Storm? What a coincidence because I am trying to find a cd single to the Quiet Storm remix of Rock Wit'cha by Bobby Brown.

The only thing that came close was a duo from Halifax, N.S. called MC J & Cool G. Even Canadians don't seem to remember them....but of course I do. They had the hits "So Listen" and "Soft as Silk."

Ahh....the memories.

I'm afraid I've never heard about them either Knyte. Must have been a rather local thing I suppose. Worth looking out for then

Hey Dysfunk:

The Quiet Storm remix to Bobby Brown's "Rock Wit'cha" is on the Greatest hits CD that MCA issued in 2000 and the 20th Century Master: Millenium Collection released in 2005 by Geffen. You'd never know which version either company used by the outside of the packaging.

Note: The version of Dance ya know it remix CD from 1989 is strangely edited and not a smooth mix. I avoided that remix disc altogether!!

I primarily buy NJS CDs for the ballads and midtempos as most artists split there albums up into NJS, midtempos, ballads, and hip hop soul. I collect soul ballads all the way back to the 60's and end up buying disco albums, jazz albums, and mix-bag compilations to get them!!
