lol, whats up guys......I have always been one not to follow trends and such. I have always listened to "good music", or whatever appeals to me good or bad. Straight up, NJS is pretty awesome. Its alot better than whats going on today if you ask me.
Basically, im 21 so im just barely old enough to have lived through the tail end of that awesome era.
I got 2 sides to me, i listen to classic metal mostly, alot of 80's stuff, and old school rnb lol.
Overall, i think the 90's were so cool and so much cooler than today.
And i will tell you what, i think what made me join this site was the streaming radio page. I think i was listening to the first of 3 videos for june o5. Man, i had no idea their was so much good music outside of what is remembered or well known. I am quite proud of the whopping 430 tracks i have on my new jack swing playlist on my mp3 player, but i think whats on that radio is right up on par and even better than the known stuff.
to bad those tracks are so hard to get

lol, i pump iron, and my name begins with d, so what the hey!
its cool that you feel like you missed out to. NOw, i am not super knowledgable about the hiphop/rap/rb part of the music industry, but i have just known that music now generally sucks. and njs/soul was just an awesome time. I was in middle school/junior high during the hiphop soul era, so i have some very nice memories of that, then music pretty much died by the time i got out of junior high.
lol, i added 20 songs to my newjack playlist already lol and i have only been a member for a couple hours. up to 905 songs.

i dont really know what draws me to this....I am a metal head too. But i loved rap and hip hop like when i was in middle school and junior high, so i always had a soft spot that never died.
I think what initially appealed to me was the keys. I thought it was out of control how guy and other groups would have key boards strapped to them and do the keys and perform a half time instrumental similar to a heavy metal guitar solo.
The melody, the insturmentals, the vocals, the attitude, the style, the era, the fact that i was in like preschool kindergarden during njs, i love it all

Similar! I was raised in Puerto Rico, therefore listening to Afro/Latin jazz and salsa music. To make things more interesting, my mother was a Beatles fanatic, so I would hear various tunes from that Abbey Road album that still rings in my head to this day.HeavierD wrote:i dont really know what draws me to this....I am a metal head too. I'd say that the music videos appealed me to NJS the most, along with the distinct genre of music itself.

Good to have you here HeavierD and good to see another 'youngster' getiing into NJS. I alwats was a bit late myself, I discovered NJS somewhere in 1990 I guess and my NJS preferences definitely are more in the later part of the era. It seems you have found yourself the right place to visit regularly
.

OH YEAH, IT FEELS SO GOOD TO BE BACK WHERE WE BELONG

Welcome!
I listen to Jazz and soul from the 1960's-present. I was born in 1976 and missed some of the good stuff but I heard it on the radio and then purchased. I really don't think hearing disco in a club would sound any better than at home.
So, Heavy D. you didn't miss much just as long as you get all of the names of the artists and the relivant discs.

It's retro-nuevo not a New Jack ballad!!
Really? I think whenever you hear a song blasted in a public venue...it just sounds better. For example, I hear PYT by MJ a lot these days when I'm out....and my reverence for that song has only increased. Maybe it's just me tho.eddie wrote:I really don't think hearing disco in a club would sound any better than at home.

I don't think it actually sounds better Knyte. It could possibly the whole atmosphere being generated by the song in the venue/club in question.Knyte wrote:Really? Come on...compare home speakers to a surround sound/state of the art set-up. Highs and lows. Arguably, probably the best place to hear a piece of music is the studio where the song is being mastered. So forget that....I'm standing my ground. It sounds better.

Hey Heavier D,
Its good to see a younger person enjoy the music. You have been doing some good stuff with your posts already. Hope to see more of you around.

NJS4E came third in our category at the VH1 Hip Hop Honours Awards. What an amazing achievement.
