A bit of a theory that I've been tinkering with.

Post by MCPhatPawz »

I don't know if this is the right forum for this topic since it's mostly a general discussion post.

Please don't flame me for bringing up bubblegum pop, but I've got a theory about the music. I've noticed that boy bands like N*Sync and the Backstreet boys, along with Britney Spears and other groups have a very new jack swing sound to them. I was thinking that there might be a possible link to the two types of music, due to the almost uncanny resemblance to the style and music between them. I know that they've done covers of notable new jack artists like Janet Jackson, and Bobby Brown and I've heard that some producers have worked on their records.

I'm just here to ask whether or not there's any verifiable evidence of a link between the two genres, or something like that. I mean, since it seems like something that could be worth looking into or giving a second look at. So I figured that this would be the best place to ask.

So is there any link between them?

First of all I would like to welcome you to NJS4E! That is a very good question you have posted. I think there may be a link, even if it's an extremely small one. But please don't take my word for it. There are other members who could answer your question way better than what I just did LOL

Enjoy your visits with us! :)

I heard I'll Never Break Your Heart by the Backstreet Boys on the school news for a couple days, and it definitely has New Jack ballad sounds.

The connection between pop and NJS has been mentioned many times on this board before. When something new hits the underground and becomes popular, the mainstream pop culture is quickly picking it up, tranforming certain elements thus making it more digestable for the casual audience.

It's been like that since jazz music was born.

This is such a good question. No, its an excellent question! Black music has always defined 'The future sound' of Pop, i.e. Whats hot in Black music today, will be hot pop in a few years from now. I think this gap is getting tighter, as often the two styles are one and the same. NJS roots formed the basis for Pop culture throughout the 90s. e.g. First you had Bobby Brown and with a similar sound you had bands like N-Sync, Backstreet Boys etc. They may not have had that 'Street edge' but, they certainly sold a ton of records. These are just some of my thoughts on this. Sorry Freez' for writing this in here....but, I couldn;t help it.

With posts like that, you should be on NJS4E more often.

For those that want to get into this discussion (because it's definitely worth discussing this IMO), there's a new thread to discuss MCPhatPawz's thoughts:http://www.njs4e.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2499.

If you would like to welcome MCPhatPawz, please do it here :D .
