THE ARSENIO HALL PETITION

Read and discuss what the media said about new jack swing and the NJS artists. Or even what they're saying today! Printed media (charts, books, magazines etc.), mass media (radio, TV), new media (internet)...anything!

THE ARSENIO HALL PETITION

Post by Knyte »

I'm surprised that I never posted a thread on here about this petitition....but it is on the main site....

We are up to almost 700 signatures....we want a lot more but that is a decent number in less than a year with limited publicity. But now we're going to try and push this thing harder.

Here is the link to the main petition:

http://www.petitiononline.com/njs4ever/petition.html

AND....there's more....others want to jump in:

http://www.uber.com/arseniohall

The time is now.

New Jack Swing 4Ever.

Why didn't they post a link to the petition? Have you contacted them already to post the link? I think that when you post a link to their page and vice versa, that would gain more interest!

I am surprised too that you haven't posted about it, or did it get lost at some point? I know I read about it and I am actually not really a frequent visitor of the main site  :? .

Great question...I am in the process of finding out how to contact these guys now. They've made it frustratingly difficult.

Uber.com is like Myspace...it's a social networking site. Unibrow is a user on Uber, and it looks like he set up the Arsenio page...but there is no way to add him. If we did WHOIS, we'd get the Uber.com info....but not the user. We'll figure it out!

As much as this show meant to me growing up, and as much as I would like to have them on DVD its just not going to happen, and if it did, most of the performances would likely be omitted due to licensing.

For instance, "In Living Color" had tons of great NJS performances but when it came time to release the DVD, NONE of the performances were included on the DVD because it was a licensing nightmare.

I believe this is what is holding up "New York Undercover" from being released. There was too many live performances sprinkeled throughout the show to work around if they weren't able to license the music.

Another example is the US television show "Everybody Hates Chris" from the Chris Rock show. They use great music throught the airings on TV but when it comes time to release the DVD many of the songs have been replaced with a different song because while they were able to obtain a single Television license they weren't able to negotiate the DVD license. I believe this is similar to why the US wirters guild is striking today, there is no system in place yet to establish just how much should be paid in roylaties on DVD sales.

It would be a great day if it ever happened, but I think its just too costly. Maybe a "best of" Arsenio Hall would come out with select performances but it would never satisfy us...being the music hungry, childhood reliving, obsessive, completist fans that we are!

Thanks for the info! I never would have thought of the licensing on the music performed. I also read somewhere that online petitions are not affective. Mainly because a petition needs real signatures and also I think it said they need addresses also.
