Portrait and Ready For The World Albums?

Post by mello75 »

Hi :D

I am new here and thankful that there are some people out there that agree that the 'New Jack Swing' music era was great.

I am wondering if any of you guys n girlz have heard the portrait album 'Share My Love'? I recently purchased it and can say it has not left my cd player since! :)

I have also purchased the Ready for the world album 'She said she wants some' ( a bit of a lame title I feel). It is a collection of previously unreleased material, so no new stuff here. It has also received a bad review here: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=am ... 30ea3xg~T1

You can listen to 30 second clips at this site: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... 85%3A26842

I must admit some of the tracks sound a bit 'cheesy' But, I just cant resist Melvin Riley's voice. Also, it means I am still supporting one of my all time favourite bands - Even if it is a bit naff.

I think I'll end this message by telling you my three wishes....

Troop will release a new album
Al B Sure is making plans to release at least another three albums
and New Jack Swing will make a comeback! :D

A bit Naff ???

Hehehehe

Mello, u r gonna have to translate from Brit-speak to Aussie 4 us !

But yeah, great to hear some come back albums. I just hope they have some decent material. Especially Al B - I have a lot of respect for the brotha.

I just wish the other Riley, not Melvin, but Teddy would pull his finger out (oz speak hehe) and put something out that truly inspires !!!!!

Ruffmix,

Naff translated means:
'undesirable, tasteless, crusty, sh!t, crap, bull, rubbish!'

Looking at it I actually used the wrong term. I certainly don't believe Ready For The World is crap! But, I know a lot of people regard them as a poor imitation of Prince. Or a bit cheesy or 'camp' sounding. Which if ya dont know means gay!

We Brits also say ' Naff off!' Which translated means:
P!ss off, get lost, beat it!

Actually I am a Londoner and we have a lot of 'cockney' slang words that other cities don't use examples are....

'You got a lot of Rabbit mate' = 'You Talk to much mate'
'A cup of the ol' rosy lee' = 'A Cup of tea'
'You wouldnt Adam and eve it!' = 'You would'nt Believe it!'
'You gotta use ya loaf' = 'You should use your head '(common sense)

Yeah I know the term 'To pull your finger out'. We use that term here!!!! :D

Hey Mello (and StevieSwing if you're out there)...funny story...

One of my best friends lives in Christchurch (near Bournemouth) and we met up again recently in London. We went to a bar one night and I went up to the bartender to get a couple of drinks. It was really loud and I didn't think he heard me so I held up two fingers to show him that I needed 2 drinks. He gave me the funniest look and just got completely cold on me. I went back to the table and told my friend what had happened. After practically falling out of his chair with laughter, he explained to me what I was doing by holding up my two fingers at him. Talk about "yank ignorance!".

For everyone else in the forum (if you don't know)...it's the equivilant of sticking up your middle finger at them!
Top 5 NJS-era albums: 1. GUY by Guy. 2. MAKE IT LAST FOREVER by Keith Sweat. 3. JOHNNY GILL by Johnny Gill. 4. FOREVER MY LADY by Jodeci. 5. IT'S A BIG DADDY THING by Big Daddy Kane.

Futureboy, Thats a funny story, you must of felt a right 'ol twat (translated = just a little bit silly)!!

My Dad's American cousin came to stay a few years ago. She nearly passed out when my Mum said ' I'm just gonna have a quick fag!!!'. Little did she know that we Brits call cigarettes fags!!!!
Things really went from bad to worse when my Dads cousin said that she had lost her Fanny pack (What we Brits call a Bum bag). What we didn't realise is that fanny = posterior in the US!!! But, we British girls call our private parts fanny!!!

These differences in our use of words could get us into some real trouble and we could end up looking like 'right pratts' (translated = idiots)

Heh. When my wife was working in Selfridge's in the UK, someone came in and asked her where the thongs were. She sent them down to the shoe department.

In the U.S. they call it KETCHUP...in Australia we call it TOMATO SAUCE.
In the U.S. they call it SODA POP...in Australia we call it a SOFT DRINK.
In the U.S. they call it GAS...in Australia we call it PETROL.
In the U.S. they call it ALUMINUM...in Australia we call it ALUMINIUM.

I used to live in USA 'till about 1994 and we then moved to England (I was about 9 when i moved)

I too have noticed the fanny packs thing...............if I tell people Iam American, they don't believe me............I have lost all my Americanisms or whatever u call them, plus my parents r actually english which helps alot too................I do love england and i do not feel American (whatever that means).......infact, now I c how UK fells about US..........that we r all so patriotic etc................I was too young to be like that, the national anthems that UK do not bother with at sports games is a definate relief! UK atmosphere is not patriotic at all and is quite cynical I reckon...........people even say I write like I have lived in UK all my life..............all of America is out of me now! The generalisation above is just that a generalisation...............I know we r all individuals etc...........
