Welcome!!

I'm from upstate NY and have a similar experience. I'm more into classic soul but definitely like many of the ballads on New Jack albums. I'm not into rock and definitely despise hip hop. What ballads do you like?

Don't worry Star! I was born in 1976 and I know what the first disco record was! I collect a majority of soul releases back to 1963. There was the "big beat ballad" like "Stand by me" by Ben E King in 1963 which was soul over a Latin rhythm like a samba. There were hundreds of songs in this ...

Welcome aboard!! I think the year I was born 1976 was also an excellent year for music albeit more funky and disco oriented. So I know how you feel as I collect music from 15 years before I was born like hard bop and early soul/doo-wop.

Hey Videosoulfan how would you rate TLC and Mary J. Blige's recent releases against those of Phyllis Hyman and Minnie Riperton? Do you think you will still be listening to all of those artists you mentioned in 10 years?

Do you ever hear of and/or like Angela Bofill who is in a similar vein of ...

Nice descriptive name but I wouldn't call New Jack Swing old school. I'm eddie, 31 and about median age of all of the posters here. I'm into soul music dating back to 1963 so NJS is just one of the many styles I collect. It was the last great era of Black music that I could a vast majority of what ...

K-bee hit the nail on the head. There is a control in this experiment and those forums have limited posters but the creators and moderators have that right but did so from day one!!

I'm strongly against limiting access and I have my views, likes, and dislikes posted on Amazon chat forums for ...

I used to listen to some hip hop like Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, Pharcyde, Arrested Development, and even Lords of the Underground but haven't had the urge in over a decade!! The last hip hop album I bought was around 1993. Most of what I had in hip hop was mix tapes from 98.7 KISS in NYC.

Hey Dysfunk:

The Quiet Storm remix to Bobby Brown's "Rock Wit'cha" is on the Greatest hits CD that MCA issued in 2000 and the 20th Century Master: Millenium Collection released in 2005 by Geffen. You'd never know which version either company used by the outside of the packaging.

Note: The ...

Welcome aboard! If you ever want to know about how to collect the rare ones and what to look out for, I'm an expert at classic soul and rare full-lenght CDs. I don't collect many remixes, LPs, or 12" singles as my focus is mostly Quiet Storm. DJ Freez' can tell you what's on the 12" single!

What ...

I create music but its mostly in lyrical forms with the instrumentals being as Count Basie would say 'head arrangements'.

I write mostly ballads and in a tad older soul vein. I do it mostly when something traumatic happens in my life. Other than that I don't do beats and am not a huge fan of ...

When performing make the song your own and DON'T BE NERVOUS!! I'm a songwriter who writes soul ballads and I just put wants on my mind and what has happened onto paper! Many times I am shocked at what comes out! You have to draw from your life experiences and convey TRUE RAW emotion of the ...
